Workers Compensation Changes in NSW

The NSW Parliament has passed new laws which have created three new Government entities.

1. The Name WorkCover is replaced with Safe Work NSW.

This new entity is the NSW State Regulator for Health and Safety in Workplaces.

2. STATE INSURANCE REGULATORY AUTHORITY (SIRA)

This new entity manages Workers Compensation Insurance and Related Activities.

3. INSURANCE AND CARE (iCARE)

This new entity delivers insurance and workers compensation services to employers and the injured.

Safe Work Inspectors advise they are focusing on :

Machine Guarding;

Workplace Bullying;

Suitable Duties;

Forklift Safety;

Falls from Height;

Hazards Identification;

PCBU – EMPLOYERS – COMPANY DIRECTORS – MANAGERS

Have considerable Legal Duties under the Work Health & Safety Act. OHS was replaced by WHS on 1-1-2012.
